Nuremberg, 19th January 2012 – Peak Solution has implemented an extensive measurement management system for automotive R&D service provider FEV GmbH. Based on the open source software openMDM, the Nuremberg MDM specialists developed a system for the efficient and transparent administration of large amounts of measurement data. The openMDM solution guarantees full documentation of measurement data and simplifies the development and implementation of new test procedures for FEV test engineers.
FEV is a renowned provider of measurement and test systems and, as a service provider, maintains a wide range of test installations worldwide. Because a large amount of measurement data from highly diverse systems needs to be managed here uniformly and independent from vendor specific formats, the company works with openMDM to manage its measurement data. In order to optimally exploit the possibilities of the openMDM Framework, FEV hired Nuremberg based company Peak Solution, a member of the openMDM developer community, to take over customization and the development of additional functions in the openMDM “test planner“. In this module, testers create descriptions of the test procedure, which later on as meta data are of great importance for the clear structure and efficient evaluation of the measurement data.
More efficiency and traceability
During the project, Peak Solution among other things implemented a so-called “data source plug-in“ to take over data from earlier tests or other applications. In addition, functions were integrated, making it possible to separately assign individual test steps, add information during a currently running test or edit and describe spontaneously performed test steps after the event. Thanks to these openMDM functions, individual test procedures can be developed and optimized step-by-step, while at the same time remaining highly standardized. Furthermore, status transitions in the test planner were expanded to make test processes easier to trace.
“For us, the traceability of test procedures and test results is crucial – any oversight or uncertainty here would cause costly additional work“, explains Georg Genender, program manager for test data handling and management at FEV. “With the openMDM extensions implemented by Peak Solution, we now have an outstanding system which guarantees us and our customers the optimal evaluability of measurement data.“
