Evaluating measurement data automatically

Munich, 9th. August 2011 – Good news for openMDM Framework users: Peak Solution has expanded the options for the open source software environment for test and measurement data. The Nuremberg-based experts for MDM solutions have integrated workflow components into the openMDM Framework, thus allowing automated processing of measurement data. As a result, the convenience and efficiency of openMDM solutions is further increased.

Measurement data often run through recurring and exactly defined evaluation and calculation processes. By transferring recurring process steps to automated workflows and thus eliminating the tedious repeated selection and processing of data, the most recent openMDM development from Peak Solution relieves the strain on test engineers. For this purpose, Peak Solution developed an interface and a workflow interpreter executing the process steps stored in the ODS database. The ASAM ODS data standard (Association for Standardisation of Automation and Measuring Systems, Open Data Service) ensures that work sequences, together with the test descriptions, measurement data and evaluation results, are stored vendor-neutral.

Defining and re-using workflows

In particular, large amounts of measurement data can be processed efficiently with this application. An import process selects the data intended for evaluation and forwards them to a previously defined workflow. Various calculations may be performed during this process, or the data may be transferred to other applications for further processing, such as DIAdem, Famos or Excel. The evaluation results are gathered automatically, the status of data is modified or various messages are sent to the user. In addition, the workflow interpreter writes tracing information to the database. This provides uniform documentation of how a specific test result was achieved.

Since the workflow definitions are stored in a structured way in the ODS database, it is very simple to re-use existing partial processes in other workflows or to put them together quickly to form completely new workflows. This considerably speeds up and standardizes recurring routine tasks, lowering the costs for measurement data management.
