Nuremberg, June 21st, 2011 - The IT dvelopment and consulting company Peak Solution, specialzed in integrated solutions for identity and access management (IAM), has introduced an ID card soltuion for some 1.600 employees at Verbundnatz Gas AG. Most of them work at the hedquarters in Leipzig and can now use the same card for building access controls and for logging in to IT systems.
With the introduction of a modern smartcard management system, an outdated system with barcode passes and magnetic cards was replaced and the issuing and administration of ID cards was made more efficient. In addition, Peak Solution created a public key infrastructure for IT security purposes.
The new cards operate contact-free. To do this, they use a LEGIC prime and LEGIC advant transponder, along with a Java crypto chip. The LEGIC radio chips are responsible for access control, time recording and cafeteria payment. The Java crypto chip is used for authentication to IT systems, including digital signature and encryption. The synchronization of user and ID card data is performed via Novell Identity Manager. Connectors from Peak Solution maintain communication between the subsystems.
The complex smartcard solution uses the smartcard management system IDExpert from the company vps ID Systeme. All types of ID cards can be created with this system, such as employee ID cards, ID cards for external staff, visitor passes or money cards for customer hospitality. For this purpose, the system retains print layouts, processing workflows and coding descriptions.
